Last night I was trying to finish up some work and it was getting late (I work O.R. so I have to go to bed real early). I took my first dose and went to finish sending a fax. The Xyrem usually takes 45 mins to work and I don't go really out just get spacey so I thought I had enough time. I hadn't eaten for 9 hrs prior to taking the Xyrem. All of a sudden it hit me like a mack truck. My head fell hard and it hit the keyboard tray with my nose WHACK!. Bruise across bridge of nose. I still needed to finish the fax so I stood up to see how much was left in the tray to send. I went out, fell backwards , hit the edge of my chair and it went out from me and I hit the ground hard. It was so fast and I was so out of it I don't really remember. My husband was getting real made and said go to bed before you hurt yourself. He said you are on too much meds, I said no its a sleep med that's what its supposed to do, I should have gone to bed.
I wrentched my knee- I think's a torn tendon/ligament.
My ankle is another story- it is swollen and I am in excruciating pain!!!!! I can't really walk but I have to go to work this morning. I do clinical trials for Orthopedic surgery so I have to be there. I am going to so if the Doc can look at it in his office today after surgery.
I may have to go to the E.R. it is really bad.
This is the first time the Xyrem worked like that. That's real good! Bad for my ankle!
UPDATE I have a 3 inch spiral frature of the distal fibula
I now ONLY TAKE XYREM IN BAD - taking after 4 hra of no food definately really changes how it behaves for me! I now know it mak
I now know how it works when it is supposed to!! Wel it is a great medicine, it works really well. I guess you just have to find out what works best for you.

Ouch! Sorry to hear you hurt yourself. Feel better!!
It is really important to take Xyrem in bed. I've cheated a couple of times and taken it before , but I know I'm risking hurting myself if I do that. So now I take it strictly IN BED. I too have noticed that the longer I go without food before taking it, the quicker it hits me. If it's been 5 hrs, I'll be out in 10 mins instead of my usual 3 hrs and 20 mins. |
