How do you feel the melatonin is working for you so far?
Do you notice any difference? You have N right?
I wish we had some of that cool sleep-lab equipment, then we could try out things and *SEE* if it worked!! |

Hi Queen Citrus!
I have just stumbled acroos this posting.
I have been away from TAS lately due to a lot of stuff that is going on in my life right now (both good and not-so-good). Mostly I've been too drained to get on the computer. Maybe 5 minutes here and there--that's it.
.....But to answer your question:
I actually stopped taking melatonin after about a week. This is because I went on a "drug holiday" for about a little longer than a week. I stopped taking everything except my anti. I am back on the drugs now (that sounds funny), and I actually just started back on the melatonin last night.
It is hard for me to give you a clear-cut answer right now, because I only used it for a very brief period. But I am back on it now, so I will be monitoring my reaction.
My EDS was horrible before my holiday. So it was hard for me to determine if melatonin had a lagging effect on me the next morning/day. Because I was already sooooo sleepy.
However, I can tell you that I felt as though the quality of my sleep was better, on the nights when I took melatonin.

P.S. I was a little skeptical that the melatonin might have possibly excellerated my EDS. But since it was already bad, it was hard to tell.
Now that I am doing okay, if I take a turn for the worse, then I'll know that it is due to the melatonin.
By the way, I take 1.5mg of the regular kind (it takes approx. 20 minutes to take effect).

I will be exciting if the Melantonin works for you. I love it, it has made me have LESS EDS...
I am glad to hear your drug-holliday went well!
Good luck with the not-so-good things. I wish you the best!

Queen Citrus,
How many mgs of melatonin do you take at night? And how many hours do you find that you need to be asleep, in order to totally "sleep it off"? Also, how long have you been using it?

Yes, indeed, it will be exciting if melatonin works for me. So far, no sleep aid has.
Thanks for the encouragement, Queen.

I atke 3 mg a night, I used to take 1,5 but I found that it worked EVEN BETTER with 3 mg. I read somewhere that only small dose was neccesarry to onset/increase ones own melatonin production...?
I need 12 hr. sleep mostly, and with it I still need 12 hrs. But I get good quality sleep, and no EDS (I used to have more EDS before). I feel refreshed on it. I also have started taking some tricyclic stuff- doxepin (Sinequan) before bedtime. It knocks me even more out. I have some EDS because of it now when I have adjusted the dose. Now that it has settled in my body I have no EDS eighter, and sleep REALLY well!! Still for 12 hrs, but I can live with that!
I have been using it for three and a half year, but I used to take it only as an adjuster when my sleep rythms were confusing. And then I only took half a pill. (1,5mg). I have been taking it regularly for 6-7 months now, and take 3 mg.

I'll keep you updated on my own progress.
