Paula, hi.
Are the dreams coming from taking the Ambien? That can be a side effect. Also, with OSA, Provigil has been approved for use. I found with fibro. and OSA the Provigil has given me back mental acuity. Also, re dreaming and REM, I have REM Sleep Behaviour Disorder which is where you are not paralyzed and you act out your dreams. Usually it has to do with something frightening or anger producing. RSBD can wreak havoc with feeling "rested." If the OSA isn't under control it makes the RSBD worse. That's my biggest problem and it's not fun trying to run with a CPAP and hosing hooked to you

PostPosted: December 29 2005    Post subject: Lack of remembering any dreams but... Reply with quote

I have not had a dream i can remember in over 7 years. My sleep is worthless, im always tired and sore all over (some of this is arthritis). When i did dream (and remember) They were not pleasant or they were alien to me in location and situation. I do Vaguely remembering having a few pleasant dreams when i was a child, but not many. I always feel like im hit by a truck, no energy to do much. My father has Apnea and i believe i may have it as well. I have found myself sleeping sitting up when i did not start out that way.
My question is, should i go see a doctor? Would they be any help?
Thank you all for your time.

Get yourself to a doctor and ask for a sleep study -- NOW. Before you fall asleep at the wheel and have an accident (been there, done that).

You are describing classic symptoms of sleep apnea.

I talked with friends before xpap treatment about how I never dream. They did not believe me. They said everyone dreams. During the first lab test, I showed no REM sleep but during the 2nd one with Cpap I showed 11%.

I have noticed since starting treatment that when I dream I feel better the next day. More energy and feel more rested.

Does anyone know what this is?

Thanks all.

My dreams faded away slowly. Only in retrospect did I realize that I hadn't dreamed in years. My first 2 sleep studies showed no REM sleep at all. When my CPAP first started paritally working, about 2.5 months into treatment (needed a substantial increase in pressure and a heated humidifier), I had a huge REM rebound with very vivid, pleasant dream. It is often reported. After a few days, I settled into a more normal pattern of dreaming, but usually not remembering the content of my dreams.

This is all very interesting is it not? My comment to add is I can not remember when the last time I had a dream was even after starting CPAP my sleep study showed that I did go into REM but most of my arousals were out side of REM.

I still am not aware of having regular dreams even with significantly increased cpap compliance. I sleep better with the Ambien (at least I stay asleep longer which leaves me feeling somewhat more rested).

When I do have dreams they are not usually frightening and don't leave me feeling unsettled on awakening. Occasionally I will have one that combines familiar places but the locales will be out of their normal context. But remembered dreams remain an isolated incidence.

I have been back on the Ambien short term as my insomnia seems to go in cycles and the Ambien helps to reset my sleep clock when it gets disrupted.

Still struggling with finding the right nasal mask. I like the Ultra Mirage that I have now but it is worn out. I would like to find something less restrictive that will still stay on my face (tried the Nasal Aire II but couldn't keep it on long enough to do any good) . I am thinking of purchasing a Mirage Vista nasal mask even though I will have to pay for it out of pocket since insurance won't pay for another mask until May.

The fibro has been on a real tear today. Multiple tender points up and down the left side of my body from my shoulder to my hip. Sat on the heating pad almost all day to get a little relief to my hip which was hurting the worst.

I have one more day off before I have to start work again. I hope I don't hurt as bad tomorrow.
