To All,
While I still have to wait 2 months to speak with my Dr. I have a copy of the study and his evaluation.

Before Pillar & Silent Nite - AHI- 15, Minimum O2 82%

Post Pillar with Silent Nite AHI 2 when sleeping on back, AHI 0 when sleeping on stomach. Minimum 02 was 91%

The 14 hypopnea events I had during the study all occurred after they woke me up and insisted I sleep on my back. I had to take ambien in order to comply with this request, and I was upset they would allow me to sleep normally during the study.

While I would recommend everyone use TAP rather than the Silent Nite, The Pillar combined with a dental device can get some of us off CPAP. Now we've got to get this info out to those who treat sleep disorders, and those who suffer with them.

A special thanks to Paul and Stoboy who went before me and encouraged me do all of this. One year after my diagnosis, my Doctor is eating his words:
Quote:
" Once you have apnea you will always need CPAP, so get use to it because you will be on it for the rest of your life."

CPAP no more, I'm soooo happy!! I hope others who want off CPAP will have this kind of success
Rick

Rick, what great news! I've followed the ups and downs of your journey to good treatment. So glad to hear the pillars plus dental device has worked out so well for you. Smile

Rested Gal,
Thanks so much for your support. There's been lots of excitement on the dental board as sleep studies are coming in with those of us using a combination of different treatments. Both Rae and myself had sleep studies last week. We were the first at our respective Clinics to be titrated with a dental device. Both of us received in the info we already knew, that we wouldn't need CPAP anymore.

In my case I slept for 2 hours on my stomach without a single event. The only events I had during the study came AFTER they woke me up, and insisted I sleep on my back. I had to take an ambien in order to comply with this request, because I can't sleep on my back, but even then my AHI was 2.

I hope those of us who have made it off CPAP and have taken the time and expense to get objective data of their success, encourage others to try alternatives that don't involve a lot of painful surgeries.

In my case I had: 1. The Pillar 2. Nasal Somnoplasty 3. Dental device.
That was the combination that did it for me. I hope my story gives others hope and encouragement to try alternative treatments. You've got nothing to lose but your CPAP machine, and I pack all my stuff away tonight. I intend to make it a big celebration!
Rick
