Has anyone had any luck with Desoxyn? My doctor put me on it and it doesn't seem to do any good. I have tried Ritalin and Adderall in the past. I am also on 4.5 ml twice a night of Xyrem. Nothing seems to help me anymore..
I stay extremely depressed because I just can't seem to get things in order anymore. My house is a total mess and all I can do is look at it and get more depressed.. I have become a loner and don't attempt to do anything or go anywhere except to work and back every day.

Desoxyn was the second narcolepsy med I tried. Well, at the time I was diagnosed with idiopathic hypersomnia, but now narcolepsy. I started out on Ritalin but my Neuro/sleep MD changed me to Desoxyn because within a year & 2 drug holidays later, he was still having to increase the dose too often. It has been about 7 1/2 yrs ago that I was on it so I don't remember the dosage, I stayed on it just under a year I believe. It was a hassle to get filled because the pharmacy had to special order it & they didn't "approve" of the dose I was on.... too much in their eyes! Desoxyn is not my treatment of choice. I didn't like the way it made me feel. I couldn't handle physical activity very well & you could FORGET about me climbing a flight of stairs or I'd just about pass out. Desoxyn is methamphetamine & I personally can't believe people choose to make this stuff at home & get it in their bodies how ever it is they do that particular drug. Wicked stuff. I prefer Dexedrine MUCH more so than Desoxyn. In my book, only thing worse than Desoxyn is Adderall! That made me confused. JUST crazy enough that I realized I was confused. It was like my brain & my body weren't connect or on speaking terms. I'd look for my tennis shoes in the fridge, I'd find my hairbrush in the living room..... & I was CONSTANTLY loosing things! I know that's not the med you were asking about, but I thought I'd stick that in there! LOL.....

Hope you find this helpful! If you'd like more info, just email me or IM me...

Desoxyn is what has enabled me to maintain full-time employment in a career that I love. My doctor first had me try Provigil, which did not increase my wakefulness. I went a year without anything until getting the chance to try the former med. While it has been very beneficial for me, there are a couple of meds with which my doctor, over time, has complimented it. One is propranolol, a beta-blocker which helps regulate my heartbeat. The other is ritilin, which counteracts environmental noise sensitivity, a side effect of Desoxyn for me.

Availability of this medication was difficult in the beginning. After a while, though, a local pharmacy got in the habit of ordering it for me. I could even call them before bringing in a prescription, and if they didn't have any in stock would go ahead and place an order from their distributor. I have found maintaining a calm demeanor and exercising good manners usually means everything in developing this kind of trust. For the past 2 years I've been fortunate to obtain 3-month supplies of this med through a prescription drug plan at work. But, when the generic form I had been switched to was suddenly recalled, and therefore unavailable, that local pharmacy, whose help I again needed, still had enough tablets for a month's supply and was very kind in informing me so. Coincidentally, that supply they had was a month away from it's expiration date.

By the way, when I was notified of the above-mentioned recall, after having mailed-in a prescription, I reminded the drug service that they had switched me from Desoxyn to the generic. I then requested to be switched back to the former. I was informed I would have to get a new prescription specifically listing this brand name med. Needless to say, in that instance my ability to maintain a calm demeanor, etc., was sorely tested, lol.
