once again I'm scheduled for turb/septoplasty thrursday. I have a deviated septum and always had trouble breathing through my nose. I've been considering getting somno or coblation instead of traditional surgery. If anyone has had any of these please respond. I don't know how long i can miss work and it seems that for the traditonal surgery i'm gonna miss at least 2 weeks. Help please

Had Somnoplasty, three treatments 5 years ago, But it was aimed at my palate for snoring reduction..Had minor improvement, but same level of snoring came back later..This is what I understand(via my ENT) that happens with any tissue treated with somnoplasty..He recommends the surgical turbinate reduction..Just my experience with the palate, haven't had the turbinate procedure yet..

waker,

I had the turbino/septo plasty combo about 2 months ago - click here for a run down of my surgery http://www.talkaboutsleep.com/message-boards/viewtopic.php?t=11377&start=14

I don't think you'll need to miss 2 weeks of work [unless you want to]. I had surgery on a Thursday - had to stay the night for observation [cause of the OSA] and was home Friday. I returned to work the following Tuesday.

I stopped my pain meds after my nasal splints were removed a week after surgery - they were the biggest cause of my face/nose pain.

Sorry I can't help you with the coblation or somnoplasty - the latter is something my ENT said that I would be a good candidate for and we are exploring this option for my tongue.

Good luck to you,

Michelle in Tacoma

I've had three treatments of somnoplasty to reduce my turbonates to no avail. There was breif relief but the condition returned . After the third try, I gave up. Sad

Hey Otis,

I just had a somnoplasty on my turbinates 17 days ago and the first 10 days were rough ever since then my breathing has gotten better and better. You mention a period of brief relief then your breathing got worse again. How long after your somno did you experience the relief and how long did it last?

Just hoping this relief I am feeling isn't temporary.
