I had a very good experience getting that surgery. The results were EXTREMELY worthwhile for me.
Since you can't affect the outcome at this point, do what you can to relax and trust the doctor.
Hopefully you have someone who can pick up your pain meds for you, or get those ahead of time. Same thing with the saline rinse items that the doc will undoubtedly have you do at some point. Make sure you have a squeeze bulb syringe, salt and baking soda around the house.
I can't emphasize enough how important it is to do the doctor recommended saline rinses, for recovery. Its freaky flushing out liver sized clots and stuff that has been stuck up in your head since the Nixon administration, but you really need to get that stuff out.
I had a 3 hour surgery. It was MAJOR.
Followup PAIN was LESS than I expected, discomfort lasted longer than I expected.
Have lots of movies stockpiled.
My pressure needs dropped from 10-14, to 6-10 cm and CPAP finally WORKED after the surgery. This will not eliminate the need for CPAP though.
good luck! and speedy healing! |

Just got home was held overnight. surgery was at 10AM and I woke up at 11:45 am pretty much having a panic attack. Was wheeled to room to stay all night the next few hours were the worse in my life so far, pure misery wanting to die or pull out the packing myself. I couldn't go to sleep with the packing everytime I would drift off I would strart to panic. So I sat in the room from 12 noon thrusaday till 6:30 Friday morning before I got prepped to remove the packing about the size of a bannana. During my time in the room i would have to call the nurse and demand my pain meds all 3 times it was at least an hour late before they came around. More to come I need a break I haven't slept in 2 whole days. Best of all my doc said he would use no packing and would go home that day. Among all the other good things the hospital cable TV was out and all you could see was static. So I had nothing to do but be miserable.
Today was relaeased at 12 noon and still in pain. I know this much the people who have had this along with UPP and Tonsilectomy are some tough s.o.b.s. |

wow, you certainly had an out of the ordinary bummer experience!
I had 3 hours of sinus/nose surgery in the middle of the day and was using CPAP that night. Maybe it helped that I could give myself my own pain meds. The doctor actually warned me that pain meds should be taken BEFORE you REALLY REALLY need them, otherwise with the time lag for them to kick in you can be in serious trouble. She said its actually a bad thing to try to "tough it out" since you really need the rest. Sounds like your place forced you into that situation. Maybe you had special circumstances, but I would recommend or look for alternate places in the future.
just my opinion though.
Speedy healing and flush per directions |
