ive read through most posts, but cant find something specific that describes my problem
I suffered from night terrors and seeing things in my sleep when i was a child, that seemed to be more apparent if i was ill or had flu. But in recent years, now being in my Twentys, i wake up in bed with an intense feeling of fear all around me and a potent musky smell in my nose that i cannot get rid of, I can only describe it as a smell of Death.
Unlike sleep paralysis i can move fine, and dont see anything in my room, but have to flee out of the room to somewhere else in the house to make the feeling go away.
It lasts 4 a while after, but i can hear voices in my head, more than one voice sometimes, but can never make out what they are saying...i try to concentrate and remember what they are saying but I can only describe the voices as very angry and argumentative! Has anyone heard anything like this...please help...also my mum suffers from this! and we both are scared but also curious to what it might be

You should see a sleep doctor and get it checked out-- go in for a sleep study. Since you smell a bad odour afterwards that might indicate some sort of seizure activity. Seizures can cause you to hear and/or see some pretty funky things. If you are having noctural siezures then you would take an anticonvulsant to control them.

Now I also hear things-- but thats because I have hypnogogic hallucinations. And unless its a really scarey one I'm not going to be afraid. Hypnogogic hallucainations are when dreams sort of intrude on being awake. So you might see or hear things, experience sensations (like floating), maybe smell things? I'm not sure about the smell part.

No one other than a sleep specialist is going to be able to tell you for sure what it is and what you can do about it. Ask your regular doctor for a referal!
