Xyrem is my drug of choice. You can read plenty about it around here and the Narcolepsy forum. I was on Provigil for about 3 years and it helped, but I don't need it anymore now that I'm on Xyrem. Xyrem gives me quality sleep at night has improved my quality of life much more than a stimulant could. It treats ALL my symptoms.

Good luck,
Moon

Have you tried taking it with lactaid or something like that?

I actually digest lactose/dairy super well. Provigil works really well for me with no side effects. But I know people with lactose intolerance and they try beano or lactaid if they want dairy.

Most meds contain lactose as a binding/bulking agent. If you know that you are lactose intollerant, you can try it with lactaid. If that does not work, a compounding pharmacy can make a lactose free version.

Provigil always made me sick to my stomach. So perhaps it could be that as well, or a combination of the two.

I'm lactose intolerant too and I take Provigil. My first day on Provigil I got an upset stomach, but after that I was alright. I've never had a problem with it in that sense.
Other more herbal things I used to use before I was diagnosed and had Provigil were Bee Pollen, Royal Jelly, Ginseng, Ginko Biloba.
I found the best combination was Bee Pollen, Ginko and Ginseng. It wasn't 100% effective, but it was better than nothing. Though, I should mention I eat about 3 cups of fruit between 11am-3pm and a spinach with strawberries and almond salad. I then have an apple on the way home. I use natural fruit sugars to help the little bit they can too. Now I take Provigil, Ginseng and Ginko but my diet is the same. I have better results with the Provigil as can be expected. But, the Bee pollen was better than nothing. Royal Jelly gave me an upset stomach.

Just some things you can try.
