I've been on xyrem 4 one year and since then i have lost 43 lbs and the doc is considering taking me off of it. Ive got neck and back pain plus some more imbarrassing problem such as indigestion and gas. I have all 4 of the symptoms of N and going back to provigil will be devastating to me because my symptoms r severe and that med does not control them well. Im worryed that i will not be allowed to drive if Im put back on provigil. I also have conserns about living alone while I'm taking xyzrem because i do not wake up easily while taking. I have NORD's backing on the cost of the med but I'm talking about overall health insurance. I'm just wondering if ne 1 else has these problems or if ne 1 has advise on how to deal with them.

Try the supplements I listed in my other post on your Insurance topic. I was already 93 lbs when I started Xyrem, but had great difficulty gaining weight back until I started magnesium and potassium. Now I weigh 105lbs (I'm 5'2") and am still slowly gaining. I also had chronic pain and difficulty digesting food. Apparently magnesium is important in creating enzymes and I was really low in magnesium. There's a ton of sodium in Xyrem - over 1600mg in the max dose, and it has a diuretic effect (makes you pee). Over time you can become depleted of magnesium, potassium, and calcium, too. Along with sodium, those are the four most abundant minerals in the body, so it's no wonder you don't feel well if you're becoming depleted of those. Try supplementing and see if it helps.

I hope you feel better and can stay on the Xyrem. Good luck!
