Typically, and I know mileage may vary, but how long can one reasonably expect their machine to last?
I've got a Remstar Auto w/ C-Flex that has worked flawlessly for 4+ years and nearly 11,000 hours. I absolutely cannot sleep without it, no chance. Because of it's age, I worry that it will konk out and leave me in a terrible position....
Also, are the newer versions of this machine as good as this one? Somehow I'd like to figure out how to get a new machine and keep this one as a spare, but it's all on my dime. I have insurance but the deductibles are high and with the wife not working, it's gonna take some planning. Has anyone ever used Secondwind CPAP for less expensive used machines?
Thanks... |

I have not personally purchased equipment from secondwind cpap - but I know them to be a very reputable company and ALL of the feedback I have received from patients who HAVE purchased from them has been very positive.
I have personally visited their location in western MN and met the owners and staff. They are all caring individuals and the customer service they provide is awesome.

I've had machines last 7-8 years but typically the life of a machine is about 3-5 years. I am very careful to replace the filters monthly or when visibly worn ( discolored ) and handle the machine with great care, especially when I travel.

| If I were you I'd take a serious look at the DeVilbiss IntelliPAP Auto with smart flex. I have not used one but am considering buying one myself as a backup. It seems to be a good package at a very good price from many on-line stores. |

Check out Fisher&Paykel Icon as well - they have a feature called SensAwake that works automatically - similar to CFLEX but a nice smooth transition and only as needed during sleep. Its a nice, small compact unit with the F&P Thermosmart humidification.
You have a LOT of great options - check em all out and see what fits best in to your lifestyle!

I've actually been looking at both machines. Currently I use the F&P HC150 humidifier and love it, but it takes up a lot of room and doesn't travel well. Noise, size and portability are going to be big concerns with my next unit as I seem to be traveling more and more. I'm just concerned about changing machines. Since stumbling across my current combination, in 2006, I've been 100% compliant and I don't wanna mess that up. I can't imagine how I'd get by without my CPAP. When first diagnosed I didn't think I'd ever get used to it, lol... I actually credit the Activa mask with my ability to stay compliant....
Anyway, thanks for the help and advice about Second Wind, I just gotta convince the DR. to renew my Rx without a new sleep study...Wish me luck! |

| Do you have a copy of your original script? If not, try asking both your local DME provider and the sleep lab/sleep doctor for a copy. Since you travel a lot you really do need to have a copy w/you when traveling in case your current PAP or its accessories should be lost, stolen or broken. That original script is good for life w/online DME providers even tho it isn't w/local DME providers. |

| My old Respironics has 12,308 hours and has traveled 551,000 miles with me around the world. I was going to replace it last year, but I have just kept going with it. It's almost 8 years old. |

My Respironics BiPAP Plus is now ~4 1/2 years old with about 10,500 therapy hours and is functioning fine. My previous machine, a Sullivan VPAP BiLevel died after about 6 1/2 years nightly use. use..
Incidentally, I have been using CPAP?BiPAP for about 23 years now, and though I dislike the hassle, I am certainly grateful that I was diagnosed and treated. I never go to bed without my machine, and when I travel even for a single night my machine is with me.
