Looking for experiences taking doxepin for sleep.

Hi All

My doctor prescribed me doxepin for sleep. I tried it 2 nights last week and found it helped a bit getting to sleep and I woke up less times during the night and fell asleep again more easily. However I slept about 10 hours each night (I usual sleep 6 to and had a VERY hard time waking up.

The worst thing is that I felt like a zombie all day the next day each time I tried it and this badly impacted my ability to do my job.

I stopped the doxepin after 2 days but this week I decided to try it again and try to stick it out long enough to see if the side effects would subside. Last night I started it again-- I didn't fall asleep for 2.5 hours (nothing new for me I am afraid) but the odd part is that after about 2 hours I got up and started retching (threw up just a bit -- this isn't something that happens to me on a regular basis so I assume its the doxepin). Today I felt completely like a zombie also very agitated.

I am wondering if any one else has tried this drug at a low dosage for sleep (like me) and had these kinds of side effects but they went away after sticking with it for a while. Any experiences people could share with me would help as well.

Hi, I have also recently been taking doxepin, and have been really pleased with the results.

What dosage are you taking? I just take 25mg per night, but only do this about 2 - 3 times a week or else it doesn't work as well.

I take the tablet at about 8pm as I usually go to bed at 10pm, by this time it has started to kick in and I feel sleepy. Manage to sleep about 4 hours without waking up, then get back off to sleep again. Sleep about 8 hours in total.

The first few times I took it, I felt really spaced out the next day! was sitting there like a zombie at work, felt really relaxed as well, it was quite nice. But it doesn't make me feel as spaced out now, but then again i have only taken it about 5 times in total. I think if I took it every night it wouldn't work as well.

So what dosage are you on?
