Posted: December 07 2011 Post subject: OFF OF ALL MY MEDS!!!! Narcolepsy and Chiropractic care. |
|
|
I began a plan of care with my chiropractor in the beginning of September. This includes, 3 adjustments weekly, specific exercises, and I was given and follow advise regarding vitamins and supplements. I am on cloud 9. If anyone wants to further discuss this, I will continue to share my story...but for now, my goal is to get you all thinking by saying this...
My chiropractor has simply removed the interference to allow my body to work they way it is supposed to work. By realigning and relieving pressure off of the nerves that deliver messages to every working system and cell in my body, my body's sleep/awake center has been also freed up to work more efficiently. After 7 years of daily stimulants and over a year of the use of xyrem with less stimulants, this is something I never dreamed of happening. Narcolepsy ? Nahh, it does not rule me anymore! |

That's great, congratulations! Now if it were only that easy to find a good, knowledgeable chiropractor. I tried one before and he was a total quack, but I do fully believe in the benefits of a good one. What area do you live in? Think your dr could make suggestions?

| MarlaJay. I would love to hear more. I am in FL also, although I do not know what part you live in. If I could find natural remedies I would be in heaven! |

Hey there, sorry for the delay in response. I have a toddler and we dont stop! My doctor did say if there is any need for an out of state recommendation, let him know the city and he will give a recommendation. I think the key to my success has been finding my doctor and his wellness center. So if you want me to ask him, just tell me your city and state.
When I first started the chiropractic care my doctor so genuinely and confidently said that he wanted to get me off of my medication. I thought of it as a dream. Now my reality is medication free. |

Narcolepsy as it was explained by my neuro, is cause when as a teenager the autoimmune system destroys some gland responsible for hypocretin. Once it is gone it is gone and it is not coming back. I would be certain that chiro care can do wonders but I highly doubt that it could eliminate all symptoms of narcolepsy.
Chiropractic care is something I definitely believe in, however I have found some chiro's to be a bit myopic in their view of health issues.
Not trying to discourage anything just trying to give a different perspective. Proceed with caution. |

I haven't had luck with any of the of the N medication available today. The last 5 years have been punctuated by life-on-hold periods dedicated to getting to the root of the problem so that I can move forward (something I haven't been able to do). I don't have enough daily energy/mental clarity to successfully pursue much else in my current state. When I read your post, I was encouraged. I am currently working with a chiropractor for the same reasons. This is why I am very interested in getting some more specific information on how your chiropractor is treating your narcolepsy.
So far there have been slight improvements, but nothing life-altering. -Most changes due to a strict diet and supplement program that any regular person would benefit from. I have a great chiropractor who is very interested in collaborating and sharing with other medical professionals of similar interests. Would love to know more. Can you offer contact information for your chiropractor?
My temp email: hellogrotto@yahoo.com
Much appreciated. |

| I'm curious, I'm assuming that your chiropractor is involved in alternative medicine? ie that he's more than a chiropractor? Because, at least from what I know about Narcolepsy, a normal chiropractor would not be treating narcolepsy... at least I've never heard of such a thing. but as you mentioned vitamins, it sounds like your doctor is an alternative doctor and also one of those people who manipulates your back but not an MD... ? chiropractor makes me think MD. |
