Hello all,
Tonight I'm undergoing my first sleep study to confirm PLMD - but from my wife's descriptions, it seems to be a done-deal. Just waiting for confirmation, and wondering what the next steps are. I understand that Parkinson's medications are often used to treat plmd and was hoping to hear from some who have gone this route.

The emotional trouble of all this is that we've been married only 6 months and not sleeping together is, in my opinion, a lousy solution. The kicks disturb her and I've not slept through the night for months now. undisturbed sleep rarely lasts more than a couple of hours; i wake up and then have trouble falling back. Any feedback on how well meds can help stop the kicks??

thanks!

Hi - I feel for you. PLMS is not a nice thing to have.

I don't take mirapex or sinemet myself - I refused sinemet and mirapex is not available in Australia where I live.

However, I believe that sinemet causes the condition to worsen after a time and most people who take it find this very distressing. From what I've read, though, mirapex works well.

I am a member of a very active on-line support group and I'd suggest that if there is not a support group in your area then you join this one. It is all done by email and you can select whether you'd prefer each email to be sent to you direct or a bulletin each day with the messages in it.
Traffic can get a bit heavy at times but you don't have to read it all. There are members from all over the world so you get a pretty broad view of medication and other strategies for coping.

I'll post the URL for the Yahoo page where you should be able to join if that is the way you decide to go - but I always have problems posting URLs here so you may have to copy and paste it if the link doesn't work.
