Talk About Sleep, Inc. Awarded Grant to Continue Advocates For Sleep Program

Minneapolis, MN - December 10, 2004

Talk About Sleep President James. C O'Brien, Md, FCCP, D'ABSM announces that Orphan Medical, Inc has awarded TAS a grant to continue management of the Advacates for Sleep Program for 2005. AFS has been operating successfully for 18 months, launching a 6 month Pilot Program in Fall 2003 which resulted in a one year renewal for 2004.

The Advocates for Sleep program provides a telephone-based service linking narcolepsy patients to a nationwide network of mentors. These mentors, all of whom are successfully treating their narcolepsy, will assist patients by providing support, information, and shared experiences. The program will be supported by the website www.advocatesforsleep.com offering additional health information. The program is funded through an unrestricted educationl grant from Orphan Medical, Minnetonka, Minnesota.

Tracy Nasca, VP Talk About Sleep and manager of the AFS Program is excited about the grant extension. “Our initial focus was clearly on the Narcolepsy patient. Over the past 18 months, our call volume has greatly increased which demonstrates the need to provide telephone support for the sleep disorder patient. Patients no longer need to feel alone in their struggle to live with a sleep disorder.” Additionally she states, “I am so proud of our mentor team who provide compassionate support to our callers. The word is out that there is a place to talk one on one for support and information. We have evolved to include an increasing number of calls from patients with other sleep disorders ranging from Insomnia, EDS (excessive daytime sleepiness) and even those who suffer with sleep problems as a secondary disorder to diseases and disorders like Parkinson's, Multiple Sclerosis, Cancer patients and Fibromyalgia. We will continue to provide this valuable service and as the need is ever changing, so will we be.”
