Respironics Alice® Family of Products Recognized with Quality & Customer Service Award

Murrysville, PA - May 10, 2005

Respironics, Inc. is the recipient of this year's Frost & Sullivan 2005 Customer-Ranked Leader in Sleep Diagnostic Equipment Quality and Customer Service Award. The award recognizes Respironics as the leading sleep diagnostic equipment manufacturer in both product quality and customer service for its production and support of the Alice®-family of polysomnographic (PSG) sleep systems.

The award, which acknowledges Respironics' responsiveness to its customers' needs, was based on input from 230 hospital-based, practice-based and independently owned and operated sleep service providers in Frost & Sullivan's 2004 U.S. Sleep Service Providers Benchmarking Study . Respironics' Alice® system outscored eight competing PSG sleep diagnostic products in the marketplace, and was sited by end-users as being best in price, user-friendly features, manufacturer service practices and reliability.  Respironics exceeded the nearest competitor by over 18 percent in the Award analysis.

"The team involved in the creation, development and continued support of Alice has worked hard to make this product line stand out in the marketplace for its quality and reliability. For this effort to be recognized by our customers is truly an honor," said Ron Fligge, Product Manager, Sleep Diagnostics, and Homecare Division. "We place a great deal of emphasis on providing high quality customer service and product support in both the field and over the phone, working directly with our sleep diagnostic customers to meet their specific needs."

The latest Alice ® system, Alice ® 5, displays and prints physiological adult and infant patient information for clinicians and/or physicians. The system helps to simplify the integration of sleep lab devices through a high-tech consolidation requiring a maximum of two cables. Alice ® 5 features expanded channel capability to 55 total channels, high quality ECG with six channels, pulse transit time (PTT), and real time impedance display.

Alice ® 5 collects data from sensors placed on a patient and delivers the information to a computer running the Alice ® Sleepware™ application. Alice ® Sleepware™ is a Windows ® -based software program designed to monitor, display, process and download polysomnographic data. The data is then presented graphically on a computer screen for diagnostic review, similar to traditional paper-based polygraph records. The system is compatible with, and has full integration to all, Respironics' lab therapy devices. New devices are added through software updates via convenient web download.

Mr. Fligge noted, "Alice ® 5 not only simplifies the process of obtaining diagnostics in the laboratory setting, but it also helps advance sleep solutions by offering a wide range of parameters for patient evaluation."

Respironics' Homecare Division is recognized worldwide for its continuous stream of medical innovations and advancements in the management of sleep disorders, chronic respiratory problems, and neonatal and pediatric care. The Division integrates state-of-the-art technology in diagnostics, therapy and monitoring with strategic programs to help health care providers, sleep centers and pediatric units care for patients efficiently and cost-effectively.
