What's up with the ASAA?

July 12, 2006
by Edward Grandi, Executive Director

Our Open Letter to the Sleep Community will be published in the July issue of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine.  In light of the findings of the Institute of Medicine report calling for the development of alternative diagnostic technology for sleep apnea, our seems a bit late, but we have pushed for this innovation for several years now.  The letter calls greater attention to patients after diagnosis, as well as greater access to diagnosis.

The association is pleased to be working with Talk About Sleep on the National Patient Sleep Conference.  The event promises to be fun and an education-filled weekend.

The ASAA is taking a leadership role in several committees looking at patient care.  Edward Grandi is chairing a task force on access to care for the National Sleep Awareness Roundtable.  We are also chairing a committee on models of comprehensive care as a follow-up to the Institute of Medicine report on sleep disorders.

Watch for a combined spring/summer issue of the association newsletter, the WAKE-UP Call.  The cover story is about Dr. Colin Sullivan on occasion of the 25th anniversary of CPAP.
