Respironics' John L. Miclot named CEO Communicator of the Year

Murrysville, PA - February 12, 2007

RESPIRONICS, INC. announced that President and CEO John L. Miclot was named CEO Communicator of the Year by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA)'s Pittsburgh Chapter. The PR SA announced the honor at its 2007 Renaissance Awards ceremony, Jan. 25.

More than 250 professionals turned out for the annual event, which celebrated the region's most admired communicators and effective public relations campaigns. Mr. Miclot was recognized for his outstanding skills as a communicator and the positive impact he has in the community by telling the exciting story of his company's growth and success in the global sleep and respiratory markets.

Coming off a record earnings day, and posting a 52-week-high, Mr. Miclot warmly thanked Respironics' 4,800 employees for their contributions in the company's 30-year history of helping people and saving millions of lives. He credited his mentor, company founder Jerry McGinnis, for his teachings and shared the key to good communication: "Jerry has taught me that you can effectively grow a company by empowering your associates, that a company that has a culture where the individual is appreciated, rewarded and encouraged to learn, invent and make a difference will thrive... To accomplish this you must realize that one of the most important elements of communication is the ability to listen."

As President and CEO since 2003, Mr. Miclot pointed to the unique opportunities he has had to communicate the company's vision and strategic plan to broaden its scope in the sleep and respiratory space. He believes that to effectively grow a global enterprise, you have to be out in the marketplace "where the action is" and spends more than 70 percent of his time on the road with customers, employees, suppliers, investors and clinical thought leaders, learning how Respironics might better serve their needs. Today, the company's six business units serve a wide range of markets, including sleep disordered breathing, critical care ventilation and respiratory drug delivery. The business has met or exceeded its earnings outlook for 29 consecutive quarters - "that's 7 years of delivering on our commitments to our shareholders," Mr. Miclot added, "and living up to our vision."
