- Did you market trial the Mirage Quattro prior to bringing this product to market?
Yes, we conducted user evaluations around the world on this new design. Overwhelmingly, patient and clinicians preferred the new mask.
- Tell us about the new Mirage Quattro.
The new Mirage Quattro is the fourth generation full face mask from ResMed. It fits more than 95% of users based on our internal anthropometric data. The streamlined design and improved features make this mask lightweight, quiet and easy to use. The Mirage™ dual-wall cushion with spring air technology accommodates movement during sleep and provides an effective solution for jaw drop.
- What are the key benefits/features of the Mirage Quattro?
The Mirage Quattro is a revolutionary design that fits over 95% of users and incorporates spring air cushion technology, a new MicroFit dial, quiet venting and features that make it is easier to use. The Mirage Quattro also uses known and tested technologies from previous Mirage masks, such as a set-and-forget headgear, dual-wall cushion and quick-release headgear clips.
- Is the Mirage Quattro quieter than the UMFFM?
Yes, it is 60% quieter than the Ultra Mirage™ Full Face Mask. We compare how quiet one device is to another by using an international ISO standard (ISO 3744: 1994 Acoustics Determination of Sound Power to measure the noise levels). The sound measurement comparison used is decibels or dBA. Sound pressure is measured at the mask at 10 cm H20.
- Do all manufacturers use this ISO standard?
Yes, this standard is the agreed upon measurement for testing.
- How is the new mask quieter than the Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask?
The new venting is a multi-hole vent array that no longer needs a silicone diffuser and provides for quiet, gentle dispersion of air. It also optimizes CO 2 washout.
- What is Spring Air Cushion Technology?
Spring air cushion technology is a modified active cell technology that accommodates for movements during sleep. The spring design buffers most movements so the mask frame does not touch the face. The spring air cushion has 4 aspects to provide better comfort and fit.
- So is Spring Air Cushion technology similar to the Active cell technology?
Yes, it is similar in that it incorporates a spring design where seal is optimized due to the elasticity of the cushion. It is different in that there is no additional gusset like on the Mirage Activa™.
- What are the cut-away sections on the nasal bridge and chin?
The inner cushion is cut-away so that pressure is directed away from the most sensitive areas-like the nasal bridge and chin - to less sensitive areas, like the cheeks. This makes it more comfortable for you and easier to fit and seal.
- How does the cushion accommodate for jaw drop?
The spring air cushion technology incorporates a moving membrane that stretches when there is jaw drop during sleep. It accommodates for mouth opening and jaw movement during sleep without losing a seal. Thus, there is no need for an under-chin cup.
- Having a narrow nose bridge, I have trouble with most traditional masks leaking into the eye area. How does the Mirage Quattro resolve this potential problem?
The Quattro has a new feature in the cushion called the Moving Membrane. The outer membrane of the cushion has been expanded to cover more area of the nose and maintain seal. It hugs and stretches over the nasal bridge so that the leak into the eyes is resolved.
- Does the Mirage Quattro still have the dual-wall cushion that I have on my current mask?
Yes, the new dual-wall cushion has been enhanced with spring air cushion technology.
- What else has been improved in the cushion?
The cushion width has been expanded to cover the mouth and not over the corners of the mouth. The height has also been expanded fit shorter and longer faces.
- What is the new MicroFit dial?
The new MicroFit dial is designed to offer you personalized comfort. It has 24 positions to get a good seal and enhance your comfort, compared to the 4 adjustable positions on the UMFFM. The dial can be turned in 1 mm increments.
- Can I use the MicroFit dial one handed?
Yes, the dial is easy to use and can be used with one hand while on your face.
- So how are you able to fit over 95% of patients with just 4 sizes?
The ResMed MicroFit dial combined with the spring air cushion technology enables the Mirage Quattro to fit a majority of patients.
- Why did you eliminate the top headgear clips?
We eliminated the top headgear clips in order t o make the forehead width smaller and minimize the risk of bumping the mask off the face when turning to sleep on your pillow.
- What are the new hook slots on the forehead support?
We added hooks at the top of the forehead support so the headgear Velcro does not have to be reset each time it is cleaned. It also makes the mask smaller on the face.
- How much smaller is the forehead support width on the Mirage Quattro?
We streamlined the new mask to make it lighter and 33% smaller.
- Does the Mirage Quattro have fewer parts than the UMFFM?
Yes, the Mirage Quattro has 35% fewer parts, making it easier to clean and maintain.
- How do I determine what size my mask is when I have to replace it?
The name of the mask is printed on the mask frame and the size is clearly identifiable on the cushion and frame.
- Is the Mirage Quattro covered under insurance similar to other full face masks?
Yes, the Quattro is covered under insurance similar to other full face masks on the market and the same as the Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask.
- How do I tell the differences between my old UMFFM and the new Mirage Quattro?
Great question. We have made it easy. Our website includes detailed information on the differences in the product along with animations to help you in reviewing the new features of the product. Go to www.resmed.com on the homepage for a link to the Quattro product page.
- I am a woman with a small head and have trouble with the headgear because it is too large. Regardless of mask size, does the Mirage Quattro come with the same size headgear for all sizes?
Great question. The X-Small and Small sizes are packed with the universal small headgear while the Medium and Large size are packed with standard size headgear. We found in our research that the standard bunched up on the patient's heads and did not cup the back of the head, which made it harder to get an effective seal and fit.
-
Is the headgear material breathable like your other Mirage mask systems?
Yes, the headgear uses our special Breathe-O-Prene ® fabric.
- What makes Breathe-O-Prene better?
Breathe-O-Prene material actually wicks away moisture rather than collecting it. This keeps the material dry, making it more comfortable.
- I am a smaller female patient on CPAP. There are not many masks out there that will fit me. Is the Mirage Quattro available in an X-Small size?
Our patient trials included smaller females and our research on development of this mask determined a specific need for an XS size mask.
- Is the headgear available in different colors or sizes?
Not at this time. The blue and teal color combination appears to be a generally well accepted color scheme by many patients and is also the visual identification of ResMed's premium Mirage family of masks.
- Is there a fitting template for the Quattro?
Yes, fitting templates are provided to clinicians to assist in determining the correct size.
- Does it come in a travel bag?
Yes, it comes in a convenient carrying case that is reusable, washable and can be easily placed inside a suitcase, backpack or briefcase.
- How does the fit range/sizing on the Mirage Quattro compare to the UMFFM?
The fit range on the Mirage Quattro has been expanded by 20% over the UMFFM. We have reduced the number of product codes, but expanded the fit range. We have added an XS size for smaller faces. There is no longer a standard and shallow size.
- I know mask cushions wear out and need replacing every 3-6 months, but how long should I expect the mask frame and headgear to last before replacing?
The entire mask should be replaced per your insurance replacement schedule, but the mask frame and headgear is designed to last at least 6 months.
- Is the unique material used for the Quattro cushion going to wear out quicker than most mask cushions? Will need to replace it more often?
The Mirage Quattro is made of the same high quality materials that other ResMed masks are manufactured from. The mask should be replaced per your insurance replacement schedule to ensure that the mask continues to seal effectively.
- Has the cushion clip been changed?
Yes, the cushion clip has been improved. It is similar to the Mirage Activa clip and is much easier to assemble and take off when cleaning.
- Has the elbow and AAV Membrane been changed?
Yes, the elbow has been simplified and is easier to clean and take apart.
- Does the new mask have pressure ports?
Yes, the pressure ports have been moved to the bottom of the mask near the elbow and are more low-profile.
- Does the Mirage Quattro come with a user guide to help me understand how to use it?
Yes, it comes complete with a quick-fit guide, detailed user instructions and a CD with fitting and care information.
- What mask setting do you use on the AutoSet ™ flow generators?
Mirage Quattro uses the "Mir Full" or "Full Face" setting depending on the model of the flow generator.
- Can you use the Mirage Quattro with a ResMed AutoSet or EPR™ device?
Yes.
- Can you use the Mirage Quattro with VPAP ADAPT SV™?
Yes.
- How much does the Mirage Quattro cost?
The Mirage Quattro is priced competitively with other full face masks on the market. Pricing for the system can be obtained from your local distributor.
- Is the Mirage Quattro approved for multi-patient, multi-use?
Yes, the mask is approved for multi-patient, multi-use in hospitals. The entire mask, except for the headgear, can be used with thermal, chemical or Sterrad for up to 20 cycles.
- What type of soap should the Mirage Quattro be washed with?
The cushion, mask frame and elbow should be washed with warm, soapy water. Use pure soap, such as unscented Dove. Rinse well and then allow to air dry out of direct sunlight.
- Is the Mirage Quattro latex-free?
Yes.
- Can I order spare parts for the Mirage Quattro?
Yes, a number of components can be ordered, including the headgear and cushions, by contacting your local dealer.
- What has been the general feedback about Mirage Quattro so far?
It has been extraordinarily positive at Medtrade and initial users like the changes. Comments are that it is better than ever.
- What should I do if I hear air leaks?
If you hear air leaks, adjust the MicroFit dial and headgear straps until the leaks are sealed.
- What is the easiest way to remove the Mirage Quattro?
There are two quick-release clips on the mask. Unclip either one and then pull the mask off over your head.
- When adjusting the headgear straps, which one should be adjusted first?
First adjust the top strap, then the bottom strap.
- What is the purpose of the Anti-Asphyxia Valve?
It is designed to allow air to enter the mask should there be a power failure and your flow generator turns off while you are sleeping. All full face masks have an AAV.
