DeVilbiss Healthcare today announced further details of their "evolution" strategy to strengthen their market position in the home health respiratory industry. Earlier this summer Sunrise Medical of Longmont, Colorado, who operated the DeVilbiss® brand and product line as its Respiratory Division since acquiring it in 1993, evolved into two distinct businesses; Sunrise Medical now concentrates on mobility products while DeVilbiss is solely focused on Respiratory products and services. This split allowed each business to significantly sharpen its focus. Somerset, Pennsylvania also became once again the location of DeVilbiss global corporate headquarters as of July 1, 2007.
Since the initial announcement of an independent business, the DeVilbiss senior management team has been working to identify opportunities to strengthen product innovation, manufacturing and logistics while addressing mounting industry pricing pressures as a result of declining reimbursement rates. As such they are adding new functions to the Somerset headquarters.
DeVilbiss announced that it was considering the relocation of some manufacturing operations - specifically oxygen concentrators, oxygen transfilling systems, vacuum/suction pumps, as well as plastics and electronics - to a DeVilbiss-owned facility in China.
"Our home health providers are continually struggling with the costs of servicing their patients," commented Kees Regeling, President & CEO of DeVilbiss Healthcare. "Add the real and threatened reimbursement cuts to that, and its clear that manufactures have to be particularly flexible if we are going to continue to meet the needs of our customers."
Regeling continued with "A manufacturing move to China would create competitive cost structures for DeVilbiss and our customers. Competitive product cost-structures however are secondary to the manufacture of quality products. Quality has been and will continue to be our mantra. In order to maintain market-leading quality we know we have to be in complete control. And that's just what we would do. DeVilbiss would own the manufacturing facility in China . All of our domestic rigorous quality measures would be applied." Regeling went on to say "the plant would be ISO 13485 certified and will meet all US FDA and other international medical device requirements."
In addition, DeVilbiss announced today that the manufacture of oxygen conservering devices, continuous positive airway pressure devices (CPAP), and professional atomizers will remain in Somerset indefinitely.
Since May of this year, DeVilbiss Healthcare has been solely responsible for the development and sales, marketing and servicing of the company's broad portfolio of respiratory products including oxygen therapy equipment, pulmonary drug delivery systems and sleep apnea therapy solutions.
DeVilbiss Healthcare is a world leader in the design, manufacture, and marketing of respiratory medical products that address the respiratory needs of patients in institutional and homecare settings. DeVilbiss products are manufactured in the United States, Europe and Asia and are distributed in more than 100 countries around the world.
