Respironics, Inc., a leading provider of innovative solutions for the global sleep and respiratory markets, will showcase some of its latest medical devices and services at Medtrade Spring 2008. The international tradeshow for the home healthcare industry begins today at the Long Beach Convention Center. This will be Respironics’ first tradeshow since officially joining Philips Healthcare in a $5.1 billion acquisition finalized on March 17, 2008.
Attendees stopping by the Respironics booth (#819) will get a first look at the company’s full-face gel mask, ComfortGel™ Full, and the BiliTx™ Phototherapy System for jaundice management from Respironics’ Children’s Medical Ventures business unit. All of the latest products will be showcased, including the newest member of Respironics’ Freedom Series™ of oxygen therapy products, the EverFlo™ Q Ultra-quiet Stationary Concentrator. In the sleep section of the booth, attendees can view the Alice® LE Sleep System, the EncoreAnywhereSM patient management system, the SleepEasy® sleep therapy system and the ComfortFusion™ mask, among other product innovations.
In the first calendar quarter of 2008, Respironics officially became part of Philips Healthcare and will be the foundation of Philips’ Home Healthcare Solutions business. Joining with Philips allows Respironics to further expand its business and better meet the needs of customers, while ensuring that its products will remain at the forefront of the marketplace.
“For more than three decades, Respironics has been a leader in delivering valued solutions to the customers and patients we serve worldwide. By joining with Philips, we are combining the strengths of two respected global companies. Together, we will continue to build on the solid foundation that our associates have worked so hard to establish,” says John L. Miclot, President and CEO of Respironics.
New on the patient interface front, Respironics is launching the ComfortGel Full mask at Medtrade. ComfortGel Full is the first full-face gel mask from Respironics. Its comfortable forehead cushion and enhanced StabilitySelector® combine with the company’s popular blue gel replaceable cushion to create one of the industry’s best full-face masks for comfort and stability.
Respironics has made two updates to the OptiLife™ mask. New tubing on the mask provides increased flexibility, helping to assure that the mask stays put, no matter which sleep position the wearer chooses. Second, patients can now choose the original nasal pillows cushion or the all-new CradleCushion™ style, which sits under the nose to provide excellent comfort and seal, while literally cradling the nose.
Also being shown at Medtrade is the ComfortFusion mask. Launched in December 2007, the ComfortFusion mask brings comfort and value together into one dependable mask to benefit homecare providers and their patients. The mask features a reliable seal, comfortable headgear and an easy-to-fit replaceable cushion.
Supporting homecare providers in delivering effective sleep therapy, SupplyDirect is a direct-to-patient drop-ship service that enables homecare providers to order OSA replacement supplies via a web portal. Respironics ships the customized packages, on behalf of homecare providers, directly to patients’ homes. Part of Respironics’ overall supply replacement effort, SupplyDirect helps providers increase their focus on patient care, while reducing costs and increasing time to pursue additional revenue opportunities.
The BiliTx Phototherapy System for the treatment of neonatal jaundice uses state-of-the-art blue LED technology to produce superior irradiance in standard fiber-optic panels. For clinicians, BiliTx can be configured as an overhead spotlight or connected to a fiber-optic panel in any hospital environment, such as a crib or incubator. In the home setting, BiliTx’s versatility allows parents to deliver phototherapy to their infants using a standard fiber-optic panel. The BiliTx does not require any cooling fans or constant temperature regulation because, unlike conventional halogen phototherapy, BiliTx does not transfer heat to the baby when used as an overhead spotlight. With its one-button operation, parents will find treating their infants’ jaundice at home with the BiliTx to be easy and reliable. Small (6.3” tall and 2.9” wide) and lightweight (2.86 lbs.), the device is easy to carry, transport and store.
Moreover, the BiliTx Phototherapy System eliminates bulb and maintenance costs and is backed by the largest light source warranty in the U.S. market. In addition to reducing bulb costs, BiliTx reduces electrical costs. Its low energy consumption is more than 90 percent more efficient than devices that use halogen bulbs.
Value, quality and ease-of-use are what homecare providers and sleep lab professionals will find in the SleepEasy sleep therapy system. Sleek, small and quiet, the SleepEasy system features a built-in humidifier, deluxe ramp capabilities with a patient adjustable ramp start pressure, lighted buttons to control the CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) unit and a pressure calibration screen that allows target pressures to be set within ±0.5 cm H20.
With the new OmniLab™ multi-mode titration system, there is no longer the need for sleep technicians to move patients to another room to titrate on a different therapy. OmniLab allows sleep technicians to choose the most effective therapy for each patient, all from one system.
The EncoreAnywhere patient management system is a powerful communication and database tool that connects clinicians and physicians with timely, accurate and informative patient therapy data to effectively and efficiently manage sleep therapy patients. Through its web-based portal, providers can access patient information anytime, anywhere.
Coming soon, the Alice LE sleep system provides an affordable method for diagnosing sleep or other physiological disorders. The system enables sleep labs to meet the AASM (American Academy of Sleep Medicine) standards while incorporating simplicity and affordability. Alice LE uses Sleepware®, a Windows®-based software program designed to monitor, display, process and download polysomnographic data.
New from Home Respiratory, the EverFlo Q is an ultra-quiet, five-liter stationary oxygen concentrator and is the newest member of the Freedom Series of oxygen therapy products. The 31-pound EverFlo Q oxygen concentrator is designed to provide ultra-quiet oxygen therapy to patients while reducing provider costs such as maintenance, unscheduled patient calls and visits, and shipping and storage. The EverFlo Q produces a typical sound level of only 40 decibels.
The SideStream® Plus breath-enhanced nebulizer features an easy-action inspiratory valve that opens on inspiration to boost medication delivery and closes on exhalation, preserving medication and reducing waste. With its proven SideStream five jet-hole design, SideStream Plus provides a high respirable fraction and shortens treatment times. Its modern handle design and angled mouthpiece help provide a more comfortable treatment for children and adults.
