Did you know the first sleep technologist to earn the credential is Peter McGregor, RPSGT? McGregor took the test at the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1979, along with seven others. There are now more than 14,000 RPSGTs in the U.S. and internationally. Want to become an RPSGT? Find out all you need to know about exam dates, eligibility and more at www.bprt.org . Several members of the BRPT and invited sleep professionals gathered in Minneapolis, MN recently to begin the process of conducting a BRPT Job Task Analysis that will impact the RPSGT exam beginning in 2010. The Job Task Analysis is a study conducted every few years to ensure that the RPSGT exam content is “real-world relevant,” according to BRPT President Becky Appenzeller, RPSGT,
R. EEG T., CNIM and reflects current best practices, technology, and job responsibilities in the field. The work done in Minneapolis will be used to develop a survey to be sent in April to RPSGTs. Survey respondents will be asked to rate the frequency and importance of each task noted in the survey. The results will determine the domains, tasks and skills assessed in the RPSGT exam.
