ResMed has recently launched www.HealthySleep.com, an educational website for people who suffer from undiagnosed sleep apnea and healthcare professionals seeking information on the condition. The new website provides an overview of the importance of quality sleep, along with exercise and diet, to a healthy life. Risk factors and symptoms of sleep apnea are provided, along with a discussion of the various health risks associated with untreated sleep apnea.
A variety of resources are available at www.HealthySleep.com to help people learn more about sleep apnea and empower them to talk to their doctor about their symptoms. Brochures describing the connections between sleep apnea and other health conditions, including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and obesity, are available for download. Also available is “Sleep Apnea Questions & Answers;” in this booklet, Dr. Sudhansu Chokroverty, Co-Chair of Neurology and Program Director of Clinical Neuropsychology at the New Jersey Neuroscience Institute at JFK and Professor of Neuroscience at Seton Hall University, answers 20 common questions about sleep apnea, its diagnosis, and the most common treatment for sleep apnea, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. Other resources include links to various websites and publications that provide additional information and support.
While sleep apnea affects one in five adults,1 many people who suffer from sleep apnea are undiagnosed.2 A lack of awareness about the condition and the increased health risks associated with untreated sleep apnea contribute to the low rate of diagnosis. Treating sleep apnea has been shown to improve quality of life for people with sleep apnea,3 and may reduce the risks of developing other chronic conditions. ResMed is pleased to be able to offer this new website to increase awareness about sleep apnea and help patients seek the information they need to get on the road to healthy sleep!
