ResMed releases the Swift™ FX nasal pillows system – less mask, more you

San Diego, CA - February 1, 2010

ResMed Corp. (NYSE: RMD) today released the new Swift™ FX nasal pillows system, the latest in its line of market-leading nasal interfaces for use in the treatment of ResMed Mirage Swift FXsleep apnea.

The Swift FX represents a significant leap in comfort technology for continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) users. Featuring a minimalist design and an innovative new silicone headgear, the Swift FX maintains a strong seal while enabling freedom of movement and various sleeping positions.

“The Swift FX is a truly unique nasal pillows system – there’s never been a mask like this before. Like all Swift systems, it’s incredibly lightweight, with a very unobtrusive design. The chief advancement with the Swift FX is that the headgear is now made of a soft, pliable silicone material that gently cushions the face. We believe this mask will have instant appeal,” stated Bernadette McBrearty, Sr. Product Director.

In engineering the Swift FX, ResMed product developers strived to create an innovative system that would fit more seamlessly into a patient’s lifestyle, providing maximum comfort and flexibility.

“Mask comfort is essential to CPAP compliance, and comfort is comprised of multiple factors. Proper fit, a strong seal, a soft touch and an unobtrusive appearance all have a role in the overall user experience. We believe the user experience with the Swift FX will be very positive, making adjustment to therapy easier and increasing the likelihood of long-term compliance,” McBrearty said. “Sleeping with the Swift FX helps patients focus less on the mask and more on how great it feels to get healthy sleep.”

Clinicians and HME providers will find a number of benefits with the Swift FX. A new sliding buckle at the top of the head combined with Velcro side straps make fitting easy and intuitive. With very few parts, assembly and cleaning are simple and straightforward, and educating patients on proper use and maintenance is simplified.

To reduce inventory and replacement costs, the Swift FX comes packaged with three cushion sizes – Small, Medium and Large – fitting up to 95% of users. An Extra Small cushion size is also available separately for users with petite noses.

The Swift FX includes a number of features to accommodate various sleeping positions and movement during sleep. The pliable headgear molds to the contours of the face to maintain a stable seal, and the smoothly rotating tube adjusts freely so as not to disturb the user when turning over or shifting. A specialized vent design makes therapy delivery ultra-quiet, and a soft narrow cushion enhances comfort for side sleepers. Optional soft wraps provide additional cushioning if desired.
