ResMed Releases the Mirage Full Face Mask Series 2

San Diego, CA - February 12, 2002

ResMed, a manufacturer and developer of products for the treatment of sleep-disordered breathing, announced the release of the latest addition to its mask family-the Mirage® Full Face Mask Series 2. This new mask takes the highly successful Mirage Full Face Mask to the next level, increasing stability and comfort for patients who mouth breathe or have mouth leak.

The mask features a soft, contoured cushion that conforms to the face to provide a secure seal. When inflated by air pressure, the patented dual-wall cushion gently floats on the face. Because the cushion is shaped around the nose and mouth, only the soft membrane comes in contact with the sensitive areas of the face.

"We are really excited about the Mirage Full Face Mask Series 2, which was developed from customer feedback based on the Series 1 design," says Karla Tate, Product Manager. "The new cushion profiles, the frame, and the headgear changes are going to help increase comfort and ease of fitting for a wider range of patients. We had very favorable results in our user preference trials with 60% of patients preferring the shallow cushion profiles to the standard cushion profile."

The mask seal is further enhanced with the inclusion of a forehead stability arm. Light and quiet, the mask has superior CO2 washout and features an anti-asphyxia valve that automatically opens if pressure drops. The Mirage Full Face Mask Series 2 also introduces the next generation of headgear material: Breath-O-PreneT. Breath-O-Prene draws moisture away from the skin while allowing air to circulate through the material for greater comfort, increasing headgear breathability and significantly reducing moisture problems associated with other fabrics. This material is exclusively designed for ResMed.

Mirage is a trademark of ResMed Ltd. and Breath-O-Prene is a trademark of AccuMED.
