ResMed's SULLIVAN VPAP II ST-A delivers quiet, comfortable bilevel therapy for ventilatory assistance.
VPAP II ST-A features smooth pressure transition, adjustable maximum IPAP (Inspiratory Positive Airway Pressure) time, adjustable rise time, and a range of operating modes. This makes it suitable for a range of patients with respiratory insufficiency and obstructive sleep apnea.
Security for patients and caregivers is assured with both audio and visual alarms that activate when pressure is too low, too high, or if power fails.
Recent studies show that all patients on bilevel therapy experience mouth leaks. Mouth leaks interfere with a bilevel device's triggering sensitivity. The result is poor synchronization between the patient's spontaneous breathing pattern and the machine breath timing. This poor synchronization forces patients to exhale against a high inspiratory pressure which increases work of breathing and can cause fragmented sleep, muscle fatigue and reduced compliance.
Maximum IPAP Time (IPAP Max), an important feature of ResMed's bilevel devices, counteracts the negative effects of mouth leaks and resultant synchronization problems between patient and machine breaths. IPAP Max allows the clinician to adjust the device's respiratory cycle to closely mimic the patient's spontaneous breathing patterns.
IPAP Min allows clinicians to adjust the minimum inspiratory time to prevent premature triggering to EPAP and allow more consistent delivery of tidal and minute volumes.
VPAP II ST-A is designed for easy use by clinicians and patients. A back-lit LCD screen displays patient parameters and allows the clinician to change all therapy settings quickly and easily, without an external unit. For remote changes, the clinician can simply connect ResMed's ResControl™ unit and make adjustments. Built-in security features ensure that patients cannot change their therapy settings.
Patient compliance is the key to ensuring successful therapy. Clinicians often request detailed patient compliance data to validate the effectiveness of therapy. VPAP II ST-A records the number of mask-on hours by the presence of mask pressure. This compliance data can be downloaded to a computer by either direct connection or modem and reviewed using ResMed's AutoScan™ software.
Small - only 5.6" high x 9.5" wide x 13.8" long (142mm x 240mm x 350mm) - and compact, the VPAP II ST-A will sit unobtrusively by the patient's bed. It's also light - only 7.7lb (3.5kg) - and has a convenient carry handle. Altitude compensation and international power supply means VPAP II ST-A can be used almost anywhere in the world without any adjustment. Patients will never have to go without therapy or restrict their lifestyles.
The VPAP II ST-A can be operated in four different ways:
