The Purple Pillow is a hypoallergenic pillow with polyester and nylon cover as well as hyper-elastic polymer filling. It is made of a proprietary filling and is great for various types of sleepers. In this review, you’ll be able to discover everything about the pillow, from its overall performance to the inner construction, cover materials, durability, warranty offers, among other features.

Overall Performance and Functions

Purple Pillow Review

The Purple Pillow is a 10-pound adjustable pillow that is neither too firm nor too soft. There are two big advantages to this pillow, and it is why it is so popular. The first thing is if you sleep extremely hot at night and you want a pillow that does a great job of regulating temperature, this is it! It allows for so much airflow. There are pockets of air in the pillow that you will not warm up on the pillow. We would say it is great for four types of sleepers.

First, it is going to be good for petite side sleepers. When you sleep on your side, you want to keep a neutral neck and a neutral spine. You want to follow a line from your nose down to your belly button.

It will also be good for back sleepers and medium-sized persons. When you sleep on it with your back on the mattress and head on the pillow, you will be able to keep a very neutral spine as you are staring straight up at the ceiling.

However, if you’re big, you can sleep on your stomach or your back. However, if you’re medium-sized or smaller, you’re not going to want to sleep on your stomach.

You wouldn’t be able to compress the pillow, so it can be comfortable for you like a stomach sleeper. As with a lot of other pillows, you want to hug the edges if it has a lot of lofts, and you can get by sleeping on your stomach with them. But this one has reinforced edges, so you can’t actually sleep on your stomach unless you are like Gregor Clegane from Game of Thrones.

The fourth type of person that will like it is somebody that sleeps extremely hot. You will appreciate all the cooling technologies and airflow with the pillow.

Talking about the cons, asides from the price, it is extremely heavy; it is ten pounds. You’ve probably never realized how light your existing pillows are until you try out a ten-pound pillow like this.

Also, it has some off-gassing smell, especially when you’ve just unpacked it. Once you put it on your bed and gave it a shot, you will realize that there is a really bad odor that smells like gasoline and flavored plastic. However, the company says to get that smell out, and you can rinse it out with some warm water and detergent and wash the pillowcase. You will also need to air it out. Also, it is a bit hard to move around.

Available Sizes

The Purple Pillow is obtainable in just one size, but you can personalize the height by adjusting the pillow with the boosters. By doing this, the pillow can be used in a loft of 1 inch, 2 inches, or 3 inches, which is the highest it can get. As you can see, it is a low-profile pillow, but it weighs 10 pounds.

However, a lot of people wouldn’t appreciate the fact that it comes in just one size. However, if you’re the type who likes thin, low-profile pillows, this should be an option for you. It is rectangular, and the fact you can adjust the height is really an advantage.

Material

Purple Pillow Review

The inner part of the pillow is a single slab of hyper-elastic polymer, better known as Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple Grid. This is proprietary material from Purple.

The construction is, however, still very simple, but there is a lot of effort and engineering that went into the creation of just the inner material – the hyper-elastic polymer. This is why it is a bit justifiable to see sleep experts arguing it is better than memory foam pillows. If you think it is not so firm and it may compress with time, sorry to disappoint you, that is not the case with this hyper-elastic polymer pillow.

As far as the construction is concerned, it is both simple and not simple at the same time. It is simple in the sense that this is a single-sided pillow. This means it is not reversible; there is only one sleeping surface.

The construction is not simple in the sense that there is a lot of science and engineering that goes into the creation of the hyper-elastic polymer material.

Cover

The Purple has a machine washable cover that is made out of polyester nylon and spandex, which make the pillow feel like basketball jerseys. It has a nylon and mesh feel. But it is soft, breathable, and it is comfortable.

Density

If you look at it uncompressed, the loft is about 3¼ inches tall, and then when you compress it with your head, it can go down to about 2.75 inches. It is thin, soft, and supportive.

Allergy Information

With the cover made from main materials such as spandex and polyester, the pillow is not just breathable and moisture-wicking. It is hypoallergenic and suitable for those with allergies. According to Purple, their products are made from food-grade and recyclable materials. The material used is 100% non-toxic and certified by CERTIPUR US and CleanAir Gold.

Maintenance

It is great that this is machine washable. However, a few users said they discovered some white crumbs like chalk powder falling out of the cover material onto the mattress after washing it.

The white powder is actually polyethylene. It is a common material that is used in all kinds of products, from makeup to food packaging. So, you should not be too worried about it. When you rinse it off to get the smell out, you won’t detect much white powder left.

Colors

Purple Pillow Review

The pillow comes in white color – that is, as can be seen from the outside (the cover). However, the inner material of the pillow is actually purple when you take the cover out.

Durability and Warranty

One thing we like about the pillow is that it is extremely durable and it requires no fluffing. It is really responsive. As soon as you press down on it, the pillow responds right back. The material is responsive, durable, and should last a very long time.

It comes with a 100-night trial period. This window is your chance to try it out for free. If you don’t like it any time during that 100-night trial period, you can send it back and get all of your money back. It is great that they want people to try their products, and they’re willing to put up guarantee you free returns while having your money back. As far as delivery and guarantee is concerned, you have free shipping, a 100-night trial period, a free return process, and a one-year warranty if you decide to keep using it.

Price Tag

The pillow is currently sold for nearly $100, and it only comes in one size. That is a bit expensive for a pillow if you ask us. There are cheaper pillows and more expensive pillows. However, we think the engineering of the patented pillow material is why it is so expensive. Another product that looks similar to the Purple Pillow in construction is the WEEKENDER Ventilated Gel Memory Foam Pillow, and this costs less than $35. However, the latter is made of gel memory foam, which is a much cheaper material compared to the proprietary material engineering from the brand.

Key Features

Some of the key features of this pillow are as follows:

  • Inner fill made of hyper-elastic polymer: The pillow has an internal fill made of Hyper-Elastic Polymer Purple Grid. This is proprietary material from Purple.
  • Breathable: The engineering of the hyper-elastic polymer gives the pillow a lot of open-air channels. Purple calls this Absolute Airflow, and it is why the pillow is breathable and cool.
  • Adjustable boosters: One new thing is that they include what are called adjustable boosters. They are air bubble paddings that are put on the bottom. With them, you can raise the loft of the pillow because 3¼ inches is not that tall. The boosters would allow you to adjust the loft.
  • Non-toxic and certified: The pillow is made of hypoallergenic, non-toxic, and certified materials. It is certified by CERTIPUR US and CleanAir Gold.

PROS

CONS

  • Made in the USA
  • CERTIPUR US certification
  • Soft and supportive pillow
  • Breathable and cool
  • Hypoallergenic and non-toxic
  • Ideal for side, back, and stomach sleepers
  • Off-gassing smell
  • Heavy and a bit highly-priced

Conclusion

The Purple Pillow is the comfort-seeking sleeper’s dream. It has a loft of 3 inches maximum approximately. However, it does not seem like a low-profile pillow, which is usually only suitable for stomach sleepers. As you can adjust the loft to a suitable height, it is recommended for medium-sized side sleepers, back sleepers, and stomach sleepers who can afford the price.
