  • Mattress type: all-foam
  • Thickness: 10 inches
  • Mattress feel: firm
  • Materials: memory foam, HD polyfoam
  • Sizes available: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, Cal King, Split King
  • Warranty: 20-year limited

More features: open-cell design; cooling foam and cover properties; 100-night trial

The Amerisleep AS1 is equipped with memory foam and high-density foam that adapt to the body shape and help with body temperature. The memory foam is designed to relieve the body at all important pressure points such as the shoulders and pelvis when lying on it, increasing sleeping comfort.

The mattress is 10 inches thick, available in different sizes, and is shipped rolled up. The cover is a soft blend of polyester sealant and spandex. When you grab and pull, it snaps back into place. So, you won’t have to worry about it bunching up as you roll around on top of the mattress. It’s a bit cool to the touch and has some good cooling properties to it.

    Why is it special?
  • A lot of memory foams have a reputation for trapping heat causing you to sleep too hot. However, this mattress includes a memory foam that has an open-cell structure. It's going to help pull heat away from the body and will help you sleep cooler. It's the best firm daybed mattress.
    What are the flaws?
  • It's not the best mattress for hot weather conditions. The heat dissipation design could be better.

Best for Pressure Relief

Brooklyn Bedding Bowery

Features
  • Mattress type: all-foam
  • Thickness: 10 inches
  • Mattress feel: medium
  • Materials: HD base foam, contouring transitional foam, patented ultra-responsive Energex foam
  • Sizes available: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, Cal King, Split Cal King, Short Full, Short Queen, Olympic Queen, Short King, RV King (3 options)
  • Warranty: 10-year limited

More features: 120-night sleep trial; also available in a hybrid version

The Brooklyn Bedding Bowery is an all-foam mattress available in medium firmness. It’s made of high-density base foam, a contouring transitional foam, as well as the unique ultra-responsive Energex foam, which is of course patented by Brooklyn Bedding.

This is a 10-inch three-layer foam mattress. The top layer is three inches of 3.5-pound density patented Energex foam. This comfort layer is contouring and hugs each inch of your body. The second layer is two inches of transitional foam. This layer is great for providing deep comfort as well as allowing a gentle transition between the top comfort layer and the base foam.

The bottom layer of this mattress is the foundation. It is five inches of 1.8-pound density base foam and provides a nice sturdy base for the comfort materials to sit on as well as great support durability and longevity that creates a solid mattress from top to bottom.

    What makes it special?
  • The mattress is very responsive and allows you to easily move and change positions without ever feeling stuck. It's also great for relieving pressure and providing adaptable support.
    What cons did we find?
  • There's a little bit of off-gassing that came out of this mattress. If you're super sensitive to that, put it in your bedroom, open a window and just leave it there for around 24 hours. That also goes hand-in-hand with making sure that it fully firms out.

The viscose mattress cover regulates the temperature by eliminating heat and moisture. Its comfort layer consists of 2 inches of cooling Airfoam. Puffy Mattress

Features
  • Mattress type: all-foam
  • Thickness: 10 inches
  • Mattress feel: medium
  • Materials: 5 PCF HD polyfoam, temperature-resistant polyfoam, 2.5 PCF gel memory foam
  • Sizes available: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, Cal King
  • Warranty: lifetime limited

More features: 101-night trial; cooling gel foam layer; stain-resistant cover

The Puffy mattress is a very popular memory foam mattress available online only. It has a very soft and thin cover that gives a nice texture to it. The construction of the mattress includes two layers of memory foam and a standard base layer. The very soft materials are very good at conforming to the curves of your body and relieving pressure.

Side sleepers will like this as long as you’re not too heavy where you would potentially bottom out. Light and medium-weight side sleepers will also find this to be a good match for them. The memory foam kicks in and helps alleviate any pressure.

Stomach sleepers may want to go for something a little bit firmer. And potentially, some back sleepers may want something a little bit firmer and a little bit more supportive as well.

    What stands out?
  • We like the lifetime warranty of this product. Not only that; you have a free trial period of up to 101 days.
What cons did we manage to find?
  • If you're a stomach sleeper, you'd probably want something a little bit firmer, a little bit less comfort material, and a little bit more support.

Allswell is our favorite premium hybrid mattress. Designed for all types of sleepers – large and small alike – it provides almost perfect comfort in all sleeping positions. Very thick (25 cm), it is composed of several layers of premium foam and a core of pocket springs.

The foams gently hug the curves of the body and keep the spine aligned at all times. Also, the upper foams are infused with cooling graphite particles to ensure constant freshness within the mattress. Best Sleep Trial

Nectar Mattress

Features
  • Mattress type: all-foam
  • Thickness: 12 in
  • Mattress feel: medium-firm
  • Materials: HD base foam, 2 PCF HD foam, adaptive response transition foam, gel memory foam
  • Sizes available: Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King, Cal King
  • Warranty: lifetime limited

More features: five-layer construction; Tencel-poly blend cooling mattress cover; 365-night sleep trial

Nectar is an 12-inch thick all-foam mattress. On the bottom, you have a thick layer of support foam. In the middle, there’s a layer of memory foam. And then on top, there’s a three-inch layer of gel memory foam. Bringing it all together is a super soft tensile blend cover. It’s quilted and gives the mattress a pretty sleek look and Nectar even added another thin layer of gel memory foam within the cover. The cover is removable which is nice, but Nectar recommends you just spot clean it if you happen to get it dirty. So, there’s no need for machine washing.

Nectar offers a 365-night risk-free trial. That’s pretty crazy; most mattress companies out there only offer 100 nights. So, that means if you decide you don’t like the mattress at any point during the first year, just give the company a call. They’ll refund your money and send someone to come pick it up free of charge. No need to worry about shipping it back.

Nectar backs their mattresses with a lifetime warranty which is pretty unheard of. Nectar will replace the mattress at any time free of charge if manufacturing defects or material failures are discovered. So, in terms of customer service and making it easy for consumers, Nectar kills it.

    What are its best features?
  • Asides from the sleep trials, where else Nectar excels and which we like is the price. Their mattresses are priced very affordably and it's a big reason why Nectar has become so popular.
    What could be improved?
  • The product has good value for money but it's expensive for some.

Things to Consider

So, of all types of mattresses, you have decided to go for a daybed mattress. Caution still has to be taken when it comes to selecting the type, firmness, and sleep technology of the mattress. In this section, we will do the best to let you make the right decision.

What kind of mattress should you put on your daybed?

Tell us what mattress you sleep on, and we will tell you who you are! This formula may seem irrelevant, yet it is now possible to choose your mattress according to your profile. Sometimes it’s even about your health, so don’t take it lightly! These are the types of mattresses to put on your daybed, depending on your features and needs.

10 Best Mattresses to Put on Your Daybed and Get the Most Benefits From ItSpring mattress: who is it suitable for?

  • Overweight people
  • People who sweat at night
  • People sleeping on their back and stomach

Memory foam mattress: who is it suitable for?

  • People with allergy
  • People prone to orthopedic problems
  • People with poor blood circulation

Latex mattresses: who is it suitable for?

  • People with chills
  • People with back pain
  • People sleeping on their back or their stomach
  • People allergic to dust mites (latex is very easy to clean)

Note: some people can develop an allergy to latex (only 1% of the population). Also, latex is not recommended if you sweat a lot at night. In the subsection below, we will discuss more on the various types of mattresses.

Features to consider while choosing a mattress for a daybed

Now, let’s discuss the most important mattress features in more detail.

Type of mattress

When we talk about mattresses in general, there are 3 main families of mattresses: spring mattresses, foam mattresses, and latex ones. Each of these types of mattresses has its properties and will suit different profiles of sleepers.

  1. Spring mattresses: Models with springs are very popular, and for good reason: they have unbeatable stability, resistance, and ventilation. Good to know: when it comes to spring mattresses, avoid entry-level products (they’re often uncomfortable), and choose to invest in a pocket spring mattress. For optimal comfort, opt for a slightly higher budget. In addition to the benefits provided by the classic spring model, pocket springs allow adjustment to different body movements. The system used is relatively simple: the steel springs are all individually wrapped in fabric pockets, which allows independent compression of the springs. Among its advantages is that if you sleep in pairs, you will not be disturbed by the movements of the person next to you.
  2. Memory foam mattresses: These models represent the top of the basket. The manufacturers marry HR foam and viscoelastic foam. This lets it perfectly fit the body and adapt to body heat (thermosensitive). This type of mattress therefore makes it possible to lighten the points of compression and support the body in strategic places.
  3. Latex mattresses: Finally, there are different latex mattresses, each having their advantages and disadvantages. When you find a latex mattress in the store, chances are it is made of synthetic latex. While this one will likely satisfy you with its great softness and its ability to adjust to your body type, it will not be ideal in terms of its environmental footprint. Indeed, this type of latex is synthesized from petroleum derivatives. It is in the upper range of latex mattresses that you will find models using the natural gum of the rubber tree. This source ensures that can have what is called the “100% natural latex” (models composed exclusively of natural polymers). 100% natural latex mattresses include models such as the PlushBeds Natural Bliss Mattress.

Mattress profile height

Regarding the thickness of the mattress, making the calculation is relatively easy. The thicker it is, the more comfortable it will be. However, note that the spring model will automatically be thicker than the foam and latex one (due to its type of construction).

Minimum thickness per type of mattress:

  • Spring mattress: from 8 inches
  • Foam mattress: from 6 inches
  • Latex mattress: from 6 inches

Sizes available

10 Best Mattresses to Put on Your Daybed and Get the Most Benefits From ItA simple tip lets you know if your mattress can suit a profile and/or size like yours. To ensure sufficient freedom of movement, the surface should be six inches taller than you.

Recommended mattress dimensions per user profile:

  • Single person: 35 x 75 inches
  • Tall person: opt for a length of 79 inches or more
  • Couple: 55 x 75 inches (or 63 x 75 inches for more comfort)
  • Child: 24 x 47 inches

Mattress firmness

To choose the right firmness for the user profile, it’s recommended you know your body mass index (BMI). If you know this, then the decision-making task is halfway through. The higher you are on the BMI scale, the more firmness you need. The lower you are on the scale, the less soft the mattress you need. So, by default, an average-sized user only needs a medium or medium-firm mattress.

Warranty and sleep trial

The warranty and sleep trial are probably the most important criteria after the material and size of the mattress. When it comes to choosing mattress products, there’s no excuse for suffering yourself with uncomfortable products. The good thing is you can choose a model, put it to test for a particular period – also known as the sleep trial – and choose to continue using it or return it. Two things are involved here. When you choose to return it, you’re given a long warranty period of up to 25 years (as is with the PlushBeds Natural Bliss Mattress) or even up to a lifetime (as is with the Nectar Mattress). And when you choose to return it, many brands will fully refund your money. Note that some models like the Nectar Mattress offers up to 365 days of sleep trial.

Benefits and drawbacks of a daybed

A day bed is a completely normal bed, but there are a few distinctive features that turn a standard bed into a useful and versatile day bed.

10 Best Mattresses to Put on Your Daybed and Get the Most Benefits From ItBenefits of day beds

  • Constructed as a normal bed
  • Not only with a head and foot section, but often also with a backrest
  • Mostly possible to lean on three sides
  • A sofa during the day, a bed in the evening/night
  • Space-saving thanks to the 2-in-1 function
  • Perfect for children and teenagers
  • Also suitable for offices to take a nap
  • Also available in metal (romantic style)
  • Often provided with a bed box (for bed linen)

Drawbacks of day beds

  • Mostly a bit narrower than normal beds.
  • As they are often narrower, special slatted frames and mattresses are required.
  • Only rarely available as a double bed version.
  • More expensive than air beds or folding beds as guest beds.

FAQ

Do I better get two twin mattresses or one larger one for a daybed if I’m going to sleep on it?

While we don’t want to restrict you to an end of a possibility, it’s good to know that both options are available, depending on which you find more accessible to you. However, it’s always great to have a larger mattress as the two twin mattresses may not provide the same stability as the single larger one.

Can I sleep on my daybed every night?

Absolutely! You may decide to use your daybed every day or at night. However, the comfort level derivable from it will depend on the type of material you choose, the thickness, and the firmness you choose.

Can I put a California king mattress on a daybed?

Yes, you can! California king mattresses are longer than they are wide. This is a befitting characteristic of the daybeds. They are long but not so wide to save space. To use the mattress on the daybed, just ensure you have a metal and adjustable bed frame.
